Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Butterfield & Robinson? Why are they operating Cervélo’s trips?
When Cervélo decided to branch into travel, we chose to partner with Butterfield & Robinson. B&R have been innovating upscale biking and walking journeys across the globe since 1966. A number of us at Cervélo have taken B&R trips and we know they are the real deal. We’ve joined together because we share the same values and commitment to excellence. And, together, we’ve created entirely unique once-in-a-lifetime riding experiences. Read more about the new travel program here.
What’s included in the price?
All accommodation and most meals, snacks and drinks for daily rides, all transfers and baggage handling, use of an Cervélo R3 Team bike throughout (including 3T tubular wheel sets where appropriate), a complimentary Cervélo gear kit made by Castelli, use of a Garmin Edge 800 with pre-loaded routes, services of a ride leader(s), full ride support from a support vehicle, all private tours, tastings or entrance fees to on-trip events; all local gratuities for special events, local guides, transfers, hotels and restaurants.
How do I reserve a spot?
You can reserve a spot by calling a Butterfield & Robinson Travel Advisor at 1-866-648-1810 or hit “Sign Me Up” on the specific trip page. To secure your place a deposit of US$500 is required.
How far in advance do I need to reserve?
Since this is the inaugural year for Cervélo Pro Travel Experience, we expect all of our departures to fill quickly, so the sooner you reserve your spot the better. If the final details of the trip have not been released (because the exact itinerary is still under construction), you can reserve spot on the waitlist.
What if I have to change or cancel my trip?
Between 270-95 days prior to departure each traveller will be charged US$250 to cancel their booking, or the you may choose to keep the full US$500 deposit in a holding account with us for use towards a future trip. Once inside 95 days prior to trip departure, standard cancellation terms apply. You can view the full terms and conditions by linking here.
Can you help with my travel arrangements?
Butterfield & Robinson has the ability to provide the full range of travel services from arranging flights, coordinating pre- and post-trip extensions, booking a hotel for the night before your trip begins. Call them to discuss your needs once you have booked your Cervélo Pro Travel Experience.
Do I need travel insurance?
As operator of the trips, Butterfield & Robinson adheres strictly to the cancellation policy, so it is highly recommended to purchase Trip Mate travel protection before your trip. Information is available upon request. You may also purchase a separate policy through your travel agent.
If I book a trip, can I be guaranteed that it will run? When will I know?
The trips are guaranteed to run once they reach a confirmed number of eight people. We will endeavour to inform all booked passengers that a trip has been cancelled at least 90 prior to departure date.
How big are the groups?
Cervélo Pro Travel Experience groups average around 15 riders, though may run with as few as 8 or as many as 20.
What does “double occupancy” mean? Can you find me a roommate?
Double occupancy means, simply, a room with a double or twin bed shared with another person for the entire duration of the trip. Cervélo Pro Travel Experience is not in a position to match up singles with others in order to travel on a double occupancy basis. We encourage anyone wishing to do so to recruit a roommate on their own.
What is a single supplement?
Our prices are based on double occupancy, and the single supplement is the cost that the hotels charges us for having solo traveller occupy a hotel room by themselves. This supplement is in addition to the regular trip price.
What kind of on-trip/roadside support do you offer?
Our trips will be led and supported by one or more Ride Leaders, who may in addition have logistical support staff with mechanicking and other skills. On each day’s ride, the route will be punctuated by support-vehicle stops, where high-energy foods and beverages will be provided. The support vehicles will also go immediately to the site of any mechanical issue (flat tire, etc.) or fall/injury.
How should I train for my trip?
Diligently! Our rides are designed for serious riders who enjoy a challenge and riding with others. Every departure features full days (up to 100km riding, plus or minus), with additional riding options available frequently. You should be fit and comfortable spending extended time in the saddle.
Can I bring my own bike?
Absolutely. Every serious rider has a fond attachment for his/her bike, and so if you prefer to bring it along, our trip staff will be happy to help you set it up for the trip. That said, the cost and inconvenience of lugging a bike in transit can be daunting, and the Cervélo bikes provided are second-to-none for quality, so we highly suggest that you consider leaving yours at home.
Do you have special rates for groups?
We have a ringleader/private groups program where you can take over a departure (or build one of your own) if you have a group of 10 or more riders. Each trip has a sliding scale pricing model where the price goes up as the number of participant’s falls below 15 and goes down as the group size goes above 15. If you are interested in organizing your own private group departure, we are also happy to help you organize the process of gathering participants.
Do you offer private trips? Where can I get info about them?
Yes, you and your group choose the when and where you want to go, and we’ll make it happen. Learn more about a Private Cervélo Pro Travel Experience here or email cerveloprotravel@butterfield.com.
Can I purchase Cervélo Pro Travel Experience gift certificates?
Yes, gift certificates can be purchased in range of amounts. A personalized certificate can be created within 72 hours and either emailed as a PDF or request a hard copy to be sent by mail.
Do I/Am I expected to tip on my Cervélo Pro Travel trip?
Yes, it is industry norm to tip each of your Ride Leaders on the order of 3-4% of the trip price at the end of your trip. All other gratuities during your Cervélo Pro Travel trip, such as for housekeeping, restaurants and porters, are included in the trip price.
